This memorial is one of the youngest memorials in the South Ribble area. The Hutton Parish Council newsletter reported in June 2012 that they had identified the potential for a war memorial to be located in the Village Hall grounds. In June 2013, it was reported that the decision had been made to erect the memorial and it would be situated at the entrance to Hutton recreational ground in Moor Lane, Hutton. The stone was provided by QED of Lindle Lane, Hutton who also prepared the ground for installation. The stone itself was prepared in Scotland.

On 5 March 2013, The Lancashire Evening Post reported:
Parish council chairman Bill Martin said: “We decided that we would build a memorial to mark the upcoming centenary of the First World War, and because, apart from the one in the Grammar School to commemorate former pupils who lost their lives in the Second World War, Hutton doesn’t have anything.  At this time, we’re still at the stage of looking at prices, but it will definitely be going ahead.”
A total of 14 men from the Longton Parish, which took in Hutton and Walmer Bridge, died during 1914-18. The Hutton Grammar School memorial contains the names of 48 old boys who gave their lives while serving their country during 1939-45.
The parish council wants to install the new memorial at the village hall, on grass land that is to be transformed into a Jubilee Garden.
Coun Martin said the small plot of land will be landscaped, decked out with benches, and named in honour of last year’s Diamond Jubilee.
He added: “The memorial will be inscribed with all of the names of people from Hutton who died during the First World War and any since.  It will be a nice tribute to those men.”
Coun David Suthers, vice-chairman of South Ribble Borough Council’s My Neighbourhood forum for the Western Parishes, said: “Hutton Parish Council put this project forward for inclusion in our action plan through our My Neighbourhood forum, and we were happy to support it.
“We’re immensely proud of all our service men and women, and it’s important that we never forget the sacrifices of the people who fell defending our freedom.  It’s fitting the people of Hutton should have somewhere to honour them in time for the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.”
The memorial commemorates 14 men in total from the village. 9 of the men died in World War 1 and 5 in World War 2. There is some space at the foot of the memorial for later additions. The top of the memorial has the Lancastrian red rose and the Hutton shield. It sits in a garden area, surrounded by shrubs and flowers.

The memorial was dedicated in a ceremony on 11 November 2013 at 10:30 am.

It was reported on 17 December 2013 that the memorial had been vandalised.

SOCIAL
The WFA was formed in 1980 to maintain interest in the First World War (1914-1918). We work to perpetuate the memory, courage and comradeship of all, from all sides, on all Fronts: on land, at sea, in the air and on the Home Front. The WFA is non-political and does not seek to glorify war.
