Hutton Village Hall, Moor Lane, Hutton PR4 5SE Ordnance Survey Grid Reference - SD 49478 26447 IWM War Memorials Register - Not on site War Memorials Online - WMO172728 This memorial is one of the youngest memorials in the South Ribble area. The Hutton Parish Council newsletter reported in June 2012 that they had identified the potential for a war memorial to be located in the Village Hall grounds. In June 2013, it was reported that the decision had been made to erect the memorial and it would be situated at the entrance to Hutton recreational ground in Moor Lane, Hutton. The stone was provided by QED of Lindle Lane, Hutton who also prepared the ground for installation. The stone itself was prepared in Scotland.
On 5 March 2013, The Lancashire Evening Post reported:
The memorial commemorates 14 men in total from the village. 9 of the men died in World War 1 and 5 in World War 2. There is some space at the foot of the memorial for later additions. The top of the memorial has the Lancastrian red rose and the Hutton shield. It sits in a garden area, surrounded by shrubs and flowers.
The memorial was dedicated in a ceremony on 11 November 2013 at 10:30 am. It was reported on 17 December 2013 that the memorial had been vandalised. |
