Erected at a cost of £1,184, the memorial was dedicated on 4 September 1921. It is situated on a triangular green at the convergence of Duddle Lane and Brownedge Lane. Although the original memorial was erected by St.Marys church, the current memorial is maintained by South Ribble Borough Council. The memorial is a composite form. The base is octagonal in shape and comprises four steps up to the main body on which is displayed 8 slate panels bearing prayers and names. The original panels are as laid out below. Above the panels there stand four holy figures which have weathered badly over the years. Above these is a calvary cross, which was topped with a small roof when the memorial was first built.

ST. MARY'S, BROWNEDGE. PONTIFICAL HIGH MASS, at 10 45 a.m. Sermon by BISHOP OF SALFORD. Unveiling and Blessing of War Memorial in the Afternoon at 3 30. LANCASHIRE DAILY POST, 31 AUGUST, 1 & 2 SEPTEMBER, 1921 The memorial is inscribed on eight sides with Panels 3 to 7 engraved with the names of 70 men who fell in the war.
Renovated memorial with new slates / tablets (from late 2013)
Works took place to amend the panels upon the memorial and to black the names so they are now more distinct. The memorial now has the names of 75 men who died in WW1, 19 names of men who died in WW2 and a Falklands War casualty. The following alterations took place.
Panel 1 is completely new and replaces the original panel. It includes 5 names of local men who fell in WW1 that had been missed from the original memorial. Panel 2 was originally Panel 3 - the original panel with the prayer has been completely removed and this panel moved up. Panel 3 was originally Panel 4 - moved up. Panel 4 was originally Panel 5 - moved up. Panel 5 was originally Panel 6 - moved up. Panel 6 was originally Panel 7 - moved up. Panel 7 is a completely new panel that incorporates the names of men who fell in WW2 Panel 8 is a new panel and continues the list of WW2 fallen together with a man who fell in the Falklands War and ends with a variation of the original prayer that was on the original panel. No work has taken place on the main edifice, although this is very weather worn.
