This war memorial was unveiled by Mr. W. J. Orr, and dedicated by the Bishop of Burnley, Dr. Henry Henn on 18 November 1920.

The memorial lists 214 names in total of men who served and who fell in World War 1.  There are a further 12 names of men who fell in World War 2 over 4 columns - this panel has been added later and the inscription is much smaller than the other names in order to fit.  The central panel contains the names of 29 soldiers who fell over two columns.  The left and right panels contain the names 185 men who served in the war over three columns each; the left has 93 names while the right has 92 names. Names are listed by initial (in some cases forename) then surname. The names are roughly sorted by surname, but many are out of alphabetical order. See also the news article below dated 19 November 1920 for a full description.

ST. AIDAN'S CHURCH, BAMBER BRIDGE.
25th ANNIVERSARY of CONSECRATION and DEDICATION of WAR MEMORIAL, THURSDAY, November 18th, at 7 30 p.m. UNVEILING by W. J. ORR, Esq., Barton Grange. Preacher: The Right Rev. BISHOP OF BURNLEY. LANCASHIRE DAILY POST, MONDAY, 15 NOVEMBER, 1920.
BAMBER BRIDGE WAR MEMORIAL. A war memorial tablet to the men connected with St. Aidan's Church, Bamber Bridge, who served during the war was unveiled last night, before a crowded congregation, by Mr. W. J. Orr, and dedicated by the Bishop of Burnley (Dr. Henn). The tablet, which is erected on the west wall of the church, facing the chancel, is constructed of dark polished oak in the Renaissance style surmounted with a moulded canopy enclosing the Royal Arms in gold and colours. The centre panel is of dark bronze, engraved with the names of the 29 men who fell, in white enamelled lettering, and on either side are two oak panels with the names of the men who served painted on. Along the base is a wide oak shelf to accommodate flowers. The memorial is 12 and a half ft. wide by 9 and a half ft. high. LANCASHIRE DAILY POST - FRIDAY, 19 NOVEMBER 1920.

The memorial is headed in the centre by the royal coat of arms with 1914 heading the left panel and 1919 the right.  Audit was made 9 March 2013.

SOCIAL
The WFA was formed in 1980 to maintain interest in the First World War (1914-1918). We work to perpetuate the memory, courage and comradeship of all, from all sides, on all Fronts: on land, at sea, in the air and on the Home Front. The WFA is non-political and does not seek to glorify war.
