Location incorrect on IWM War Memorial Register (4 May 2017)

The original memorial was situated inside the church and took the shape of a board - this no longer exists.  It was broken up around 2005 and was replaced with a stone plaque affixed to the wall of the memorial garden with the names of the fallen from the First and the Second World War. Mike Bertram from the church has provided a list of the men who were commemorated on the original memorial, both fallen and served. These names were written into the church memorial book before the original memorial was broken up.

Mike Bertram from the church has provided a list of the men who were commemorated on the original memorial, both fallen and served.  These names were written into the church memorial book before the original memorial was broken up.

The new memorial takes the form of an inscribed stone plaque and contains the names of 7 men who died in the Great War and 1 man who died while serving in the Second World War. The letters are picked out in gold lettering and decorative swords are inscribed either side.  The tablet is affixed to the wall of the memorial garden to the left of the main entrance to the church, accessible from Wesley Street and Station Road. The work was undertaken by McMurray Brothers Ltd., Preston.

SOCIAL
The WFA was formed in 1980 to maintain interest in the First World War (1914-1918). We work to perpetuate the memory, courage and comradeship of all, from all sides, on all Fronts: on land, at sea, in the air and on the Home Front. The WFA is non-political and does not seek to glorify war.
